The Stations of the Cross

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Students will discover the origins of the Stations of the Cross and explore the themes associated with each station.
  • Students will review The Act of Contrition.
  • Students will understand the suffering of Jesus, and its' importance on their own life of faith.

INTRODUCTION: Today you will go on a journey and join in meditations that describe the passion of Jesus. You will accompany Him on the Way of the Cross and also learn many new things about yourself and your faith.

PROCESS: You will work with 4-6 students as you journey through the Stations of the Cross. At the conclusion of the WebQuest, you will present a short talk about how the Stations of the Cross have importance in your own life.

What are the origins of the Stations of the Cross?

View The Act of Contrition. Re-write it in your own words.

View each Station of the Cross. Discuss with your group members, what each event means to you.

Now that you have discovered the events of Jesus's suffering, turn your thoughts to your own heart, and think of ways you can enter into His suffering on a day-to-day basis.

Download the Child's Guide to Lent. Read and discuss the Guide with your group members.

ASSESSMENT:

In a group of four to six students, use the Stations of the Cross Discussion Questions Worksheet, to prepare a short talk about:

1. What each Station means to you.

2. Ways each Stations encourages you to live your faith.

**Each member of your group needs to contribute to the talk.
