Learning Outcomes

  1. Examine Old Testament Wisdom Literature.
  2. Take a close look at ONE area of Wisdom Literature and learn about its' qualities.
  3. Discover the purpose of Wisdom Literature in the past and modern day times.

Introduction

What is wisdom? How do we become wise? You will explore Wisdom in the Old Testament and make a Diorama explaining the information you discover during the WebQuest.


The Task

You will follow the links below and take notes of all information you explore. Once you have completed your research, see how to make a diorama to show what you have learned.


The Process

  1. A rich variety of words are used to describe Wisdom. After reading what the Bible describes as Wisdom, summarize your thoughts.
  2. What Books are considered to be Wisdom Literature?
  3. What are the characteristics of Old Testament Wisdom?
  4. Take a look at the context of Wisdom Literature. What is it that sets the wisdom of the Hebrews apart from the other cultures of their time?
  5. Psalms - Take a Closer look at the Psalms What is meant by a Psalm? What are the central thoughts of the Psalms? How are the Psalms sometimes grouped?

Explore the Wisdom of Solomon What is meant by the Wisdom of Solomon. What are the central thoughts?

5. When you seek wisdom, you open yourself to being changed and to grow. When you learn
something, you cannot go back to a former state of being. Wisdom propels you into newness. What is the purpose of Wisdom Literature?


Evaluation

Now is your opportunity to show what you have learned about Wisdom Literature by making a Diorama. You will need to include:

  1. A scroll showing what Wisdom is, and the Books commonly known as Wisdom Literature.
  2. A mini-book detailing the qualities of Wisdom in the Old Testament.
  3. Choose either the Psalms, Book of Solomon, or the Proverbs to write and illustrate the central thoughts for ONE book. Include illustrations, models, and charts as visual aids.
  4. How is the Wisdom of the Old Testament relevant to your own life? Make an exhibit to explain.
